Dry Ice Adds Special Effects to Fun Birthday Cake

I am known as the cake baker in my family. I make special birthday cakes for every member of my family and I try and personalize the cakes according to the recipient’s personality, interests and age. Last year, I made a volcano cake for one of my nephews that also served as somewhat of a science lesson. I used dry ice to produce the smoke that appeared prior to the red, bubbling flow of lava that erupted from the top of the volcano and oozed gently down the sides of the cake. Pouring just a little hot water into the cup containing the dry ice and my egg white wash that had been tinted with red food coloring produced the smoke and flowing lava. Now that my nephew and rest of my family know I can make cakes that ooze has inspired many more ideas for special birthday cakes and I am currently planning on something special, and a bit gruesome, for a fun Halloween cake.
